Speed bumps hurt

I really did it this time. I was walking at lunch Thursday and strained the crap out of my knee. I guess now I will accept that I am not supermom and there are some buildings I can not leap. However, after some really good pain meds and a dramatic crying fit I realize that even though I have hit a bump in my road it does not mean I have to give up. I have the strength to do anything I want and getting healthy is just going to take a different road. So, crutches certainly suck but they will not be needed forever!

Oh and a HUGE thanks to David for being such an attentive nurse. I love you baby!

Here we go again....

Ambry, my trainer, came over last night. I had not worked out with her in 6 weeks due to work. We were looking at our log and realized that in August we will have been working out for two years. It amazes me that it has been that long. We have had several breaks due to my job, knee trouble, her school and holidays. The thing that I am proud of is that even with our breaks I get back to it. I get back on the bike, treadmill, etc. I am not giving up on my desire for a healthier me. I am not going to let anything stand between me and that end goal of being around for my family into old old age. I feel that I am making the life changes I need to stay healthy for years to come. So, here we go again until the next interruption =)

New year, new resolutions

A new year, a new set of resolutions. Kinda interesting to me how they are pretty darn similar to last year. I did lose some weight in 2008. Not as much as I wanted but I am proud that it was the first year since 2001 I did not gain weight over the year. So for 2009, I am going to keep that goal in mind when setting this next one.

My goal for 2009 is to run/jog/walk the Turkey Trot through downtown Dallas on Thanksgiving Day. Ambry (my trainer) is going to participate with me and we are going to train for the walk. I hate hate hate running/jogging but I thought maybe if I pushed myself out of my box it would help. Ambry is enthusiastic and several friends have agreed to do it with me. I am grateful for my support system of friends and family who truly care and love me!

So to warm up for the BIG event, I have committed to walk the Multiple Sclerosis Walk in Addison on March 28th. Ambry and I start training on January 18th (after I get back from vacation). I am ready to get jogging. I have managed to convince several co-workers to do it with me. One of my co-workers has this horrible disease and I am awed by her attitude of not letting it win. The least I can do is raise a few dollars to help with research for a cure.

So the next time you try to call me or email me or IM me, I am probably jogging or walking asking myself what the heck was I thinking but cherishing my good luck to have a body that works. Take care!!

My trainer is back

After three weeks Ambry is back. Man can I tell. We went running/jogging/fast walking last night and I gave it all I had. Needless to say, I am feeling it this morning. I ache from the knees down. I will quit whining now but not before mentioning that I went 3 minutes 21 seconds nonstop. I still have a way to go to get to 10 minutes but progress is progress.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but after a workout like last night it strangely makes me feel alive. The sweat pouring down my back, the burning from muscles which are tired and the heavy breathing all remind me that I am a vibrant woman.

Shocking

Shocking to me anyway. Yesterday, when my trainer came over for our fast walking/jogging workout she mentioned she wanted to do one set going as long as I could. Now as most overweight people would tell you, we should not run! Period! It is not attractive or fun. But since Ambry started working me out, I have come to be more open to the possibility. She and I set a goal of my being able to run/jog/fast walk 10 minutes straight by the end of the summer. So right now I am doing 5 one minute sets and 5 30 second sets up a hill. Knowing how I feel after that I was doubtful I would go much over a minute. Well I managed to jog/walk 3 minutes straight! I was surprised and amazed. Now I am thinking that 10 minutes is achievable. I will keep you posted on my progress.
